Go, Grow, Glow

My goal in the Year Up program is to be hired by one of the most well-known organizations out there after graduation. But I know it’s not going to be easy because achievements, certificates and awards don’t matter unless you have experience and a positive attitude. Luckily, Year Up has everything I need in order to succeed. I could gain a lot of experience out of Pro Skills and Tech class during the learning & development phase. Additionally, Business Communications can help me with my verbal skills because I tend to say words that are unpleasant or unprofessional. There are a lot that I want to learn such as verbal skills, how to pronounce words properly and how to present myself in a professional manner. For Tech class I want to know the difference between different matters and using the correct terminologies for a specific subject. Right now I’m learning a lot of new things, information I haven’t learned in college. And I can’t wait until the internship within 5 months because I want to know which organization I fit best. It could be anywhere like Google, Mozilla, Wells Fargo, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Who Knows? Only time will tell. Life is full of surprises and anything can happen. You can be offered a job by a talent agent who works in Hollywood or you could get shot or stabbed by a random stranger in the streets. I always have to remember that I should stay motivated and positive and with these elements, I should be fine. But I wouldn’t mind if somebody calls out my mistakes because it’s for my own good.

Last Friday, I heard one of the most thoughtful quotations ever by the guest speaker. Bret Sweet said, “Setbacks will prepare you with your comeback.” I'm definitely going to keep that in mind.  This strongly implies to infractions, as much as possible, I will try not to get one throughout the learning & development phase. It would be tremendous if I didn’t earn one because that’s what I’m trying to do. So far, I haven’t earned at least one yet. It’s not that I’m a perfectionist; I just want to stand out when employers are scouting for possible employees. Code switching is something that we can all can get use to because it is pretty easy and it doesn’t take too much effort to do.
